Material: Boltaron

What is Boltaron and why is it used for holsters?

Boltaron is a high-performance thermoplastic sheet material widely used in holster and sheath manufacturing. It’s valued for its rigidity, abrasion resistance, and ability to hold a precise moulded shape once heat-formed, which gives finished holsters consistent retention and a tight fit around the firearm.

How does Boltaron compare to Kydex?

Both are thermoplastics commonly used in holster production and perform similarly in the field. Boltaron is often noted for slightly higher heat resistance and scratch resistance in independent material comparisons, but both materials are considered industry-standard choices. The difference in real-world performance is generally minor. However, we chose Boltaron because the sheet thickness is consistent, it picks up fine detail when moulded, it resists impact and scratches, and it comes in many colours and textures. For you, that means a precise, reliable fit.

Why do you use Boltaron instead of leather or nylon?

Boltaron holds its shape. It doesn’t soften, stretch or sag with age. You can reholster with one hand because the mouth stays open. It also won’t soak up sweat or water, so it won’t trap moisture against your firearm.

Is Boltaron durable in extreme temperatures?

Boltaron holds up well across a wide temperature range and resists warping in hot vehicle interiors or cold outdoor conditions better than many softer plastics. That said, prolonged direct exposure to extreme heat (for example near a heat vent or in direct sun on a dashboard) should still be avoided with any thermoplastic holster.

Does Boltaron scratch or wear the firearm’s finish?

Boltaron itself is a hard, smooth material, but any holster material can potentially mark a firearm’s finish over time from repeated draw and reholster friction, especially with certain finishes (like some Cerakote colours) or holsters moulded too tightly. We recommend proper break-in and a well-fitted mould to minimise this.

What thickness of Boltaron do you use?

Standard holsters are typically built from 2 mm Boltaron sheet, depending on the model and firearm size. Reinforced or duty-line products may use heavier gauge material for added rigidity.

Is Boltaron waterproof and weather resistant?

Yes. Boltaron does not absorb water or degrade from moisture exposure, making it a good choice for outdoor, duty, or humid-climate carry compared to leather.

Fit, function and retention

How do I know which holster fits which firearm model?

Each SKU is moulded specifically to an individual firearm, light and optic combination. Using the wrong mould can result in poor retention or an unsafe fit.

Is retention adjustable?

Most models include a retention screw system allowing end users to fine-tune tension. We recommend advising customers to test retention before field use.

Do your holsters accommodate red dot optics or weapon lights?

Yes, we offer optic-cut and light-bearing variants for popular optic and light combinations.

Will the holster loosen over time?

Boltaron holds its moulded shape well and resists the "loosening" some materials experience with age, though normal wear over years of heavy use can gradually reduce retention tension. Retention screws allow compensation for this.

Wholesale account and ordering

How do I set up a wholesale account?

Send an email to byron@ilandfeldt.com, or use the trade enquiry form.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Yes. There is a minimum order value of R2 500 plus courier charge.

Do you offer tiered pricing based on order volume?

Yes, pricing scales down on large order volumes.

What are your standard lead times?

In-stock items usually ship within 3 to 5 business days. Custom moulds or new firearm-fit patterns can take 2 to 4 weeks depending on tooling requirements.

Can I get samples before placing a bulk order?

Yes, sample units are available at standard wholesale unit pricing (or a reduced sample rate, depending on your account tier) so you can evaluate fit and finish before committing to volume.

Customisation and private label

Can we get custom colours or patterns?

Yes, we offer a range of standard Boltaron colours and can discuss custom colour runs for larger orders.

Do you offer private labelling or custom branding?

Yes, private label options (custom stamps, packaging and branding) are available for qualifying wholesale volumes.

Can you develop a mould for a firearm model not currently in your catalogue?

Yes, custom tooling requests are evaluated case by case based on projected volume, since new moulds require upfront tooling investment and lead time.

Care, warranty and returns

How should end users clean and maintain a Boltaron holster?

Mild soap and water or a damp cloth is sufficient. Avoid high heat, harsh solvents, or abrasive cleaners that could dull the surface finish.

What warranty do you offer on holsters?

We stand behind our products against manufacturing defects. Specific warranty terms (duration, coverage) are outlined in your wholesale agreement.

What is your return and defect policy for wholesale orders?

Defective units can be returned or exchanged within the window specified in your wholesale terms. Products damaged from misuse or improper fit selection are not covered.
